“Remember to think of the cost of self-publishing as an investment, not a cost. [A book is] an asset that earns you money long-term.”

The video below by Gillian Perkins is on How to Self-Publish your first Book. Step by Step Guide tutorial.
Some have said it is possible to publish your book for free; my take is that Self-publishing a book will incur costs. These costs fall into these categories;
Editing: It is essential to get a good editor to edit the manuscripts. This could cost anything from $400.00 upward. Obviously, this cost will be determined by the length of the book and the experience of the editor.
Cover Design: The cover is really essential. This is what will attract potential customers first. It is, therefore, highly recommended you get a good cover design. You can get this done in Upwork, Fiverr or any other freelance sites.
Formatting: It is essential that your book is formatted. It is recommended that your book is formatted both for print and for Kindle. Obviously, there is another format for iBook, Smashwords, and Kobo. This too can be done in Upwork, Fiverr or any other Freelance site.
Promotion: It is essential that you promote your book. You can have the best product in the world but if nobody is aware of it, I can guarantee you that you will not make many sales. You may need to spend money on several site launches. How much you spend will depend on your budget.
Other Format: You can also create other formats like audio or Large Print. All these could increase your book reach but this also come at a cost.
By way of summary, the cost of publishing a book varies. Self- published authors could be looking at anything from $500 – $4,500.00. This obviously, includes editing, formatting, cover design, etc.
